Tyler Walters - Technical Artist / Game Dev

Hi there!

My name is Tyler Walters. I’m located near Seattle WA and have been a technical artist by trade for about 12 years, with an additional 6 years of experience before that wearing many different hats while working with small indie startups. Over that time I’ve helped create and ship a variety of games, experiences, tools, and peripherals, with teams ranging in size from 2 to 50 individuals. All spread out across PC, consoles, VR headsets, and mobile devices.

Graphics, coding, art, animation, tools, vfx, debugging, profiling, prototyping, and design are areas that I am comfortable navigating and supporting proactively day to day. I enjoy combining all of my abilities to solve challenges and share ideas through formats that best support conversations around the goals of individuals involved during each stage of production. This continued spread of knowledge has also given me greater confidence as a technical artist in recognizing worthwhile opportunities around interdisciplinary efforts in order to maximize a team’s energy towards what matters to them most.

Performance and optimization have been a core element to my role across each project. The experiences I’ve had shipping realtime projects at stable framerates on devices like iPod 4, PS Vita, Oculus Quest, Switch, PS5, and PC have all refined my understanding in how to work efficiently with new and old technologies, build unique solutions for complex problems, and collaborate with others objectively through nuanced spaces. Working in VR for over a decade has only accentuated my clarity in this field by the necessity of fast, near perfect frame times, and in recent years the added difficulty of working with mobile chipsets.

Outside of work I often continue building other forms of creative art. I am currently on a journey to learn about music and sound creation, which I am actively incorporating into a solo development project.

I carry significant gratitude for people that I’ve been lucky enough to work closely with over the years, especially those at Oculus and Polyarc, for whom showed friendship, mentored me, and gave me confidence to continue reaching for what I am most passionate.
